Massage for relief at Optimal Spine

Deep tissue/sports massage and Shiatsu. A unique combination!

Whether you are looking for a stress-relieving, mind-clearing massage, relief from particular muscular tensions or want to experience the balancing effects of a Shiatsu energy massage look no further!

According to your needs our practitioners can combine deep tissue techniques where we can address any chronic tension or contraction which is causing pain and restriction of movement in the musculature with Shiatsu.

After clearing and relieving the musculature using deep tissue techniques our practitioners can then work more freely on facilitating the optimal flow of vital energy through the meridians using Shiatsu which realigns the energetic body and works on deeper layers that might be out of balance. This in turn influences the physical body and triggers a balancing process.

Deep Tissue Massage

The Deep tissue massage offered at Optimal Spine is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.

Our deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.

Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, the deep tissue massage offered at Optimal Spine usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries (e.g. falls, minor sports injuries)
  • Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Postural problems
  • Muscle tension or spasm

Our patients often quickly notice an improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage.

The deep tissue massage practitioner may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during the deep tissue massage.

During a deep tissue massage session at Optimal Spine you may be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on certain tense areas and it is important to drink as much water as you can post session to flush metabolic waste from the tissues.

The Shiatsu massage offered at Optimal Spine is a traditional form of therapy originating from Japan and aims at balancing the meridian system – the web of subtle energies which relate to our emotional and physical health and which can be disturbed by the stresses of everyday life. Stretching and pressure applied to the limbs, back and neck can alleviate structural problems and muscular tension.

It is considered beneficial in treating a range of conditions and enhances and supports synergistically, working alongside the other care offered at Optimal Spine:

The Shiatsu offered at Optimal Spine promotes healing accompanied by a feeling of relaxation and well-being through stimulating the body’s own internal processes, accessing as it does the whole being, encouraging and facilitating connection on all levels.

We emphasise correction and maintenance of bone structure, joints, tendons, muscles and meridian lines where malfunctions/imbalances are distorting the flow of the body’s energy and the clarity of communication in the nervous system.

Some of the benefits of the Shiatsu Massage therapy offered at Optimal Spine are::

  • relaxes body and mind
  • restores and balance energy
  • eases tension and stiffness
  • improves breathing
  • improves circulation
  • improves posture
  • enhances wellbeing

Shiatsu was officially recognized as a ‘complimentary therapy’ by the Japanese Government in 1964.
